Two Different Comings?

Revelation 1:7, “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds [Greek word #5443] of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.”

Matthew 24:30, “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes [Greek word #5443] of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”31  And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other . . . 34  Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Two different comings? Hard to believe, isn’t it?

Consummation of the Ages

John 5:25, “The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.”

(Relate this scripture to this one: “John 4:23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.” Do we have to wait until the “end of time” to worship truly and in spirit and in truth? Of course, I guess some would say THESE dead are dead only spiritually. But this scripture goes on to talk about the dead rising from their graves and being judged. So I don’t see how we can differentiate.)

Romans 16:20, “And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly.” (See Genesis 3:15.)

1 Timothy 6:14, “That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:”  (How could Timothy do this if he was dead? Is he still alive waiting?)

Hebrews 1:1-2, “[God] Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son,” (The last days were THEN. And in fact in the “last days”: “Acts 2:17  And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:” If we are, as some say, still in the last days, why aren’t we dreaming dreams and prophesying?)

John 12:31  Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

Hebrews 9:26, “For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the consummation of the ages hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.” (I’m sure people believe THIS is in the time of the apostles, even though it’s the consummation of the ages.)

1 Corinthians 10:11, “Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are arrived.” (Sometimes that word “ages” is translated “world.” And notice that “our” is not you and me but THEM at that time. In fact, KJV says: 1 Corinthians 10:11  Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.  As our dear brother George Howsepian said to me, “The end of the world came and we missed it.”)

1 Thessalonians 5:23, “…and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ” (Sounds like Paul wants them to be ALIVE in their BODIES when Christ comes.)

James 5:7-9, “Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. . . the coming of the Lord has drawn near . . . behold, the judge stands before the door.” (The judge–to judge–on the judgment day.)

1 Peter 1:9-10, “Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:”

1 Peter 1:13,20, ” Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the appearing of Jesus Christ; Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,” (Those were the last times.)

1 Peter 4:5, “Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.”

1 Peter 4:7, “But the end of all things has drawn near:”

Acts 2:16-20, “But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days…The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:” (Joel spoke of this time, and now it’s coming true, in the last days–their days.)

Acts 3:24, “Yea, and all the prophets…have likewise foretold of these days.” (All the prophets spoke of THIS time, not something coming in OUR time.)

1 Peter 4:17, “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God:”

1 John 2:17-18, “And the world passeth away . . . Little children, it is the last hour . . . we know that it is the last hour.” ( I have read that John wrote this sometime after 60 AD. Since 70 AD was so near, he could even say it was the last HOUR.)

1 John 3:2, “…when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. ”

John 21:22  Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me. (How could John tarry till Jesus came if Jesus still hasn’t come? Of course, Jesus didn’t KNOW when He was coming, but He probably knew it wouldn’t be that long so that John could still be alive, just based on prophecy.)

Revelation 12:10  And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

The Blessing of Being Bowlegged

A friend who runs complained recently about chafing. It occurred to me that I never chafe–never have and probably never will. Why? My mama done told me many years ago. “Be thankful you’re bowlegged,” she said, “because when you aren’t, your legs rub together and you chafe.” A blessing to be bowlegged! Who would have thought!

While walking this morning, I got to thinking that the most unattractive circumstances can present great blessings. I began to think of such blessings in my own life.

I am twice divorced and thrice married. What a blessing! Hard to recognize the blessing in that? Any heartache that we suffer gives us strength and new insights. And with divorce comes the joys of new courtship, new love, new family members, and a new adventure–not to mention new lessons learned.

I have always hated my thin hair. But several women have told me that thick hair makes them very hot. Plus, they must pay someone to thin out their hair from time to time. Another blessing for me!

I’m an asthmatic, which is a real bummer. But without this disease I might not concern myself much with what I eat or how I live my life. Because of my asthma, I have studied health issues and garnered amazing information, consequently practicing a much healthier lifestyle than I otherwise would. Yet another blessing.

I walked three miles yesterday. I hope to do the same today. Being bowlegged, I never know how to walk. Do I turn my feet out so my knees will point forward, or do I turn my knees inward so my feet will go straight? I don’t know. But one thing is certain: there will be no chafing–because, thankfully, I am bowlegged!

My Baby Boy (for Seth)

Dear Lord, the days have swiftly gone;
My baby is no more.
Did I not wean him just last year?
Last month did he turn four?

Last week did he first ride his bike
Without the training wheels?
(I laughed to watch his little dog
Go barking at his heels.)

And was it yesterday he asked
To lick the cookie bowl?
He had me look for ghosts beneath
His bed last night, I know.

Today did I not dry his tears
When he was teased at school?
Was he not spanked this morning when
He broke the Golden Rule?

Could this young man I look upon
Be that small child of mine?
No, no, my baby couldn’t be
Much more than eight or nine.

Oh, God! the baby boy I bore
Too soon from me is gone.
I trust I raised him well for You–
And, thank You for the loan.

Last Days

John 6:39  And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40  And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
44  No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
54  Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 11:24  Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. (Btw, how did Martha know this if it wasn’t from the Old Testament? And whatever is in the Old Testament is fulfilled.)

John 12:48  He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

If these are not talking about the same last day(s) as the Old Testament, then are there TWO last days? That doesn’t make sense to me.

And w e have:

Hebrews 1:2  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

We say that Jesus spoke to us and now we can’t have any more prophets. And yet we have:

In Hebrews 9:26b it says: But now he has appeared
once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by
sacrifice of himself

Has Christ not appeared to do away with sin? Are we still waiting for a Savior?

And we have:

Micah 4:1  But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.

Acts 2:17  And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

So we know the church was established in the last days. And we know that in the last days there would be prophecies. But then we say that in the last days JESUS is the one speaking to us and it is still going on although the prophecies are NOT going on. How can that be? If it’s still the last days, we should still be prophesying. Why aren’t we?

Found Written in the Book

Daniel 12:1-2:
Now at that time Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise. And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the book, will
be rescued.
And many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the thers to disgrace and everlasting contempt.

Again, this has happened or the Law is still in effect.

Plus, we have:

Daniel 12:10  Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

11  And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

12  Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

13  But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

And, from the New Testament:

Matthew 24:15  When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Jesus is interpreting Daniel here. He’s talking about the very same thing and even says it came from Daniel.

And:

Matthew 24:30  And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31  And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

32  Â¶Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

33  So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34  Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Jesus says that the abomination of desolation that Daniel talked about being when people would be resurrected and judged would come on some who were living right at that time. That’s powerful. Now, the question is, is it going to happen again? If so, where is the prophecy? We know that Daniel said it and Jesus reiterated it and said it would happen in that generation. But do we see it prophesied to happen again? Is Jesus coming a THIRD time?

The Dreadful Day of the Lord

Micah 3:12 Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

Micah 4:1 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.

This was the last days. This was to come upon the nation of Israel–upon Jerusalem. That’s done already.

And Peter shows that that WAS the last days:

Acts 2:14-21 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: {15} For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. {16} But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; {17} And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: {18} And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: {19} And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: {20} The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: {21} And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

We know all this happened in that generation. We have no prophecy that the sun will be turned to darkness AGAIN or that the moon will turn to blood or that there IS another great and notable day of the Lord.

Mat 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Matthew 24:34  Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Heb 9:26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the age hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

1 Cor 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the age are come.

James 5:1-9 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. {2} Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. {3} Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. {4} Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. {5} Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. {6} Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you. {7} Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. {8} Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. {9} Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

This was about to happen–to these people.

Jude 1:17-18 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; {18} How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

Jude says this was already happening.

1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

The day was coming to those people. THEY had to be ready for it.

Heb 10:37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

Heb 13:14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one about to come.

Luke 11:50  That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

Revelation 16:6  For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

Revelation 18:24  And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

It was time to pay and those people were going to be the ones paying. We aren’t in the last days. There ARE no last days for US. At least that’s how it seems to me.

Daniel 7:27  And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

2 Peter 1:11  For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
